This site is a personal website. It sells nothing, has no user accounts, and sets no cookies for visitors. This page explains what is processed anyway, because operating a website unavoidably involves some data.

Server logs

Two servers deliver this site, and both keep short-lived technical logs that include your IP address, the time of the request, the page requested, and your browser and operating system. This is standard for any web server and is needed to deliver pages and to defend against attacks.

  • j.langschwerts.de is hosted by Host Europe GmbH, Hansestraße 111, 51149 Köln, Germany, acting as a processor on my behalf.
  • circart.langschwerts.de is hosted on GitHub Pages by GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. This means your IP address is transmitted to GitHub, including to servers in the United States. GitHub is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — my legitimate interest in operating and securing the site.

Visitor statistics

I use GoatCounter to count visits. GoatCounter is deliberately privacy-preserving: it sets no cookies, does not track you across websites, and does not store IP addresses or any other data that identifies you. What I see is aggregate counts — how many people opened a page, roughly where in the world they were, which browser they used, and which site linked them here.

Within the CIRCArt game, the same system counts anonymous events: that a game was started, how many rounds were chosen, whether a card was placed correctly, that a game was finished, that the gallery was opened, or that the feedback form was used. These are plain counters. They are not linked to each other, to you, or to any session, so they cannot be used to reconstruct what one person did.

Because no personal data is processed and no cookies are used, this needs no consent banner. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — my legitimate interest in knowing whether anything I publish is read or played.

Data stored in your own browser

CIRCArt remembers which artworks it has recently shown you, so that a long session keeps serving fresh cards. That list is kept in your browser’s local storage for about six hours and then expires. It never leaves your device and is never transmitted to me or to anyone else. Clearing your browser data removes it immediately.

Contacting me

There is no contact form on this site. If you email me, or use the feedback button in CIRCArt — which opens your own email program with a draft that you can read and edit before sending — I receive your message, your email address, and whatever you chose to include. I use that only to reply and to fix what you reported. Email is handled by Microsoft 365. Correspondence is kept as long as the matter is open, and is deleted when it no longer serves a purpose or you ask me to delete it.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, and Art. 6(1)(b) where your message concerns a possible collaboration.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. Write to the address above and I will answer.

You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In Austria that is the Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40-42, 1030 Vienna (dsb.gv.at).

Artwork images

CIRCArt reproduces artworks for a non-commercial educational game, each credited with artist, title, year and holding collection. If you hold rights in a work shown there and would like it removed or credited differently, please write to the address above and it will be dealt with promptly. See also the Impressum.
